Sponsor A Cat

We struggle to fund our work and sadly although cat rescue has a wonderful dedicated team of volunteers the centres future is always balancing on a knifes edge. It is vital to our survival to receive help and interest from out side sources.

We always have cats who seem to stay for longer than others, cats that try so hard when new families come to meet them but are passed over for a younger or prettier neighbour. These cats all cost a lot of funding to keep as we have a strict non destruction policy, some lucky felines are placed in a matter of days or weeks others however are here for years and will remain for the rest of their lives.

Our five residents or the gang as their affectionately know would like to send quarterly updates on the comings and goings from cat rescue to those who would like to adopt them. Maybe you are not in a position to rehome a cat perhaps your family is already complete. To sponsor one of our residents would provide much needed funds to continue our work.

Rescue cats looking for sponsorship

April & May

April and May are sisters who had to be trapped from a barn in Ditchling when the owner was forced to sell, they were feral's also and had been kept on the farm to produce kittens for the owner to sell. Needless to say they were not the only cats there and it took a long time to round them all up. April came in on the last day of Aril 03 and she was a pitiful sight to behold not only did she have a broken jaw but also the worst case of ear mites seen to date and to round off a huge mammary cyst. She had been in this state for some time because of the impossibility of getting near a feral the owner had no idea.

May came in a day later she was also in a bad way with a flea allergy and an infected wound on her ear, after an intensive period of treatment we did manage to save the ear which is now very much like a boxers cauliflower ear which she wears like a badge of honour. Both of the girls have found a safe haven which i'm sure they appreciate, to be warm, dry, have full bellies and no pain must have been hard to get used to at first but now they are happy and contented but sadly could not cope with a real home environment. Due to all of the necessary handling they are too domestic to got to a farm again but not domestic enough for rehoming. They enjoy life at the centre and even very occasionally allow staff to have a cuddle with them.

Bracken

Bracken is another of the Ditchling barn cats, she was the last one trapped and she led us a merry dance for nearly two months. She had at some point had an owner as she was already domesticated, the owner of the barn didn't know where she came from, she just turned up one day and decided to join the community. She was pregnant when she came in and gave birth to six gorgeous kitten then proceeded to raise them very well, telling us in no uncertain terms that she needed no help from us what so ever. When the kittens were rehomed she decided to adopt April and May and they are quite happy to let her groom them and boss them about you will always find them together, either playing or sleeping in a big tangle of legs and tails.

Minky

Minky is a beautiful tortie who was tamed from a feral life six years ago. She has been to several homes and never settled in any of them however on returning to the rescue centre she has always relaxed straight back in. She thinks of the centre as home and is the boss of all who enter animals and people alike. When rescued she was pregnant with a litter who were sadly still born, since her arrival when we have abandoned kittens she helps to clean and train them and even tries to feed them, this is no longer possible having been spayed years ago but it pleases her no end to go through the motions anyway.

Fluffy

Fluffy is the centres oldest resident at 19 she has been with us for 2 years, over that time her mental health has deteriorated she has forgotten how to use a litter tray and insists that it is always meal time. Although the general consensus is that she is having us on half the time and you can't blame her at her age she is fully entitled to be a bit cantankerous. Moving her to another environment would be cruel as she is very happy here with her spot on the sofa, all of the volunteers (her staff!) to pander to her every whim and all of her friends who have the utmost respect for her. Her physical health is good although the dear old girl is starting to look her age now, every day we have her is a blessing! As any one with an elderly cat will know.
